Cash Flow Forecasting Software for Odoo

Ariel GottfeldAriel Gottfeld

Most of the well known cash flow forecasting tools do not connect to Odoo. Float works with Xero, QuickBooks Online and FreeAgent. Fathom works with Xero, QuickBooks, MYOB, Sage and spreadsheet import. Neither has an Odoo integration, which is why an Odoo user searching for a forecasting tool runs into a lot of software that looks right and then is not.

This page covers the options that do work with Odoo, and is honest about where each one wins.

The four routes

Before comparing products, it helps to know which category you are choosing between, because they solve the problem in different places.

  1. Native Odoo. The cash flow statement and budgets. Free, already installed, backward-looking.
  2. Apps Store modules. Forecasting built inside the database. Cheap, version-locked, not available on Odoo Online.
  3. Spreadsheets. Free, flexible, stale within days, and dependent on one person.
  4. Connected tools. Read your Odoo data over the API and maintain the forecast outside it. Subscription cost, no install, works on any hosting.

Native Odoo reporting

Where it wins: it is already there, it is free, and the cash flow statement is a properly built report with operating, investing and financing classification and drill-down to the entries behind each line.

Where it does not: there is no rolling forward view and no scenario capability, which is the difference between a statement and a forecast. Budgets are forward-looking but fixed at the point you approve them, so they answer what you planned rather than what your balance will be in six weeks.

Choose it if you run one company with steady payment timing and a cash buffer larger than a month of outgoings.

Apps Store forecasting modules

Where they win: low cost, and the forecast lives in the same database as the data. Several compute forward values from historic entries and open AR and AP, apply growth assumptions, and map forecast categories to analytic accounts. For a self-hosted single company with a developer available, that is a reasonable fit.

Where they do not: they cannot be installed on Odoo Online, which removes the option entirely for a large part of the Odoo base. They are built against a specific version and need migrating at upgrade time, and maintenance across versions varies by author. Support is often a fixed window from purchase date. Consolidation across companies is usually absent.

Choose them if you are self-hosted, single company, and you want the forecast inside Odoo.

Spreadsheets

Where they win: total flexibility and no licence cost. For a first forecast, a spreadsheet built from your Aged Receivable and Aged Payable exports is the fastest way to find out whether you have a timing problem at all.

Where they do not: the model is accurate on the day you build it and drifts from then on. Multi-company means consolidating by hand. Scenarios mean duplicate tabs that go out of sync. And the whole thing depends on the person who built it still being there.

Choose them if you are testing whether you need a forecast at all, or you have one company and a stable cash cycle.

Cash Flow Frog

Where it wins: the connection is over the Odoo API with no module installed and no change to your database, so it works on Odoo Online as well as Odoo.sh and on-premise. That removes the constraint that rules out the module route for most Odoo customers. The forecast runs up to three years out on a rolling basis with daily and weekly views, you can drill from any point down to the underlying transactions, and multiple Odoo companies consolidate into one view. Rule-based projections calculate future values from your own history rather than fixed amounts you have to maintain.

Where it does not: it is a cash flow forecasting tool rather than a full financial planning suite. If you need three-way modelling across profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow together, or board-level management reporting packs, that is a different category of product.

Choose it if you are on Odoo Online, or you run more than one Odoo company, or you need the forecast to be current without anyone maintaining it.

Agicap and Monitr

Both are European treasury and cash management platforms with Odoo connectivity, and both are more commonly deployed through Odoo implementation partners than bought directly. They aim at a larger finance function than a typical SMB, with treasury workflow, payment approval and bank aggregation alongside forecasting.

Choose them if your requirement is treasury management across multiple banks rather than cash flow forecasting specifically, and you have an implementation budget.

Float and Fathom

Both are strong products and neither connects to Odoo. Float is built specifically for Xero, QuickBooks Online and FreeAgent. Fathom connects to Xero, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, MYOB and Sage, with Excel and Google Sheets import available for anything else, which means you can get Odoo data into Fathom by exporting it manually and re-importing on whatever cycle you are willing to sustain.

They are worth knowing about because they dominate the search results for cash flow forecasting software generally. If you find a comparison article recommending one for Odoo, the author has not checked the integration list.

How to choose

If this is true Look at
You are on Odoo Online A connected tool. Modules are not installable.
You run two or more Odoo companies A connected tool with consolidation.
Self-hosted, one company, developer available An Apps Store module.
You need treasury workflow and bank aggregation Agicap or Monitr.
You need three-way modelling and reporting packs A financial planning platform, not a forecasting tool.
You are not yet sure you have a timing problem Build the spreadsheet once and find out.

Where this leaves your Odoo forecast

The choice is narrower for Odoo than for Xero or QuickBooks, and that is the single most useful thing to know before you start a trial. Most tools in this category were built for the two large cloud accounting platforms, so an Odoo user has to check the integration list first and the feature list second.

Cash Flow Frog connects to Odoo over the API and keeps a rolling cash flow forecast current from your live data, up to three years ahead, with scenarios, transaction-level drill-down and multi-company consolidation. You can see how the Odoo integration works, compare it against native Odoo reporting, or check pricing.
