Do you use your personal Facebook profile for business purposes?
I have a ton of clients who are “friends” on FB. Many of them were friends before they were clients.
I have nothing to hide. I base my whole business on transparency and market pretty heavily around my personal brand and I use my FB company page to talk about work-related stuff mostly.
My personal page I keep pretty personal, but will put the odd “work” related post on my personal page because I now have so many friends from my business world that there are a lot of “grey areas”
I can’t be bothered to manage multiple personal pages. I understand it’s actually against FB polices to have more than one personal page anyhow, so the last thing I want to do is end up in FB jail.
Frankly, those who post accounting and/or business related stuff on their personal pages are kind of boring and worthy of being ignored. 😉
People do business with people. Being authentic and transparent has garnered me a lot of work through my 5 years in business.
I know of others who had more than one Facebook account and their account has been suspended. With all the fake news and zombie profiles out there (and bad press FB has been receiving lately), I’m not surprised they’re clamping down on dual profiles.
And yes, they suspend all the accounts when you go to FB Jail and it’s a PITA to get them back so not worth the risk, IMHO. I know of one person who had her business pages also go down as well as any groups managed by either profile.
Hope it doesn’t happen to you because it’s more common than you realize.
FB has been taking their TOS much more seriously since Zuck was put under the crosshairs.
what others do is create “lists” of friends. Send only biz posts to those on the biz list, or do personal posts to those on the personal list.
I think you can isolate who sees what under preferences as well.
Might be something to consider looking into in case the FB Police start sniffing around. I’ve never been in FB Jail but I’m told it can be like real jail the way FB makes you prove your innocence as you’re trying to get your account back 🙁
